NAAF is currently seeking a driven and accomplished professional to join our organization as the Vice President of Grants and Compliance. As an integral part of the NAAF management team, this individual will be pivotal in overseeing the annual grants and program objectives, ensuring that the organization and its grantees adhere to best practices and guidelines while supporting Indian Country Agriculture and traditional food systems.

Position Title: Vice President of Grants and Compliance

Organization: Native American Agriculture Fund

Location: Remote

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Status: Full-time

Primary Job Overview:

The Vice President of Grants and Compliance will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of grant awarding and compliance processes for NAAF. This key position will direct and oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of grant programs while providing leadership and support to the organization. The successful candidate will collaborate with NAAF stakeholders and Native American communities to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the grant process. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Program Development and Management
      • Develop strategic grant-making, capacity-building, and technical assistance initiatives aligned with NAAF’s mission and Trust Agreement;
      • Develop expertise in NAAF’s grant management software, rapidly mastering its navigation and functionality. In addition, become proficient in training others to efficiently and effectively use the system (The current system is called Foundant).
      • Identify and implement best practices for grantee outreach and support;
      • Oversee implementation and management of grant application and review processes;
      • Collaborate with executive leadership to manage program budgets and ensure proper financial reporting.
    • Compliance and Monitoring
      • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as NAAF’s policies and guidelines, including knowledge and consciousness of Tribal Government jurisdiction and cultural awareness.
      • Develop and implement accurate and consistent grants monitoring and reporting systems;
      • Provide regular reports to the CEO and Board of Trustees on program progress, compliance, and any identified risks;
      • Implement necessary corrective actions to address any deficiencies and enhance grant management processes.
    • Relationship Building and Collaboration
      • Foster and maintain positive relationships with grantees, peer organizations, and other key stakeholders;
      • Advocate for the needs and aspirations of Native American communities at the local, state, and federal levels;
      • Network with other grant-making entities and philanthropic organizations to share knowledge, resources, and strategies.
    • Staff Management and Development
      • Supervise and mentor staff within the grants and compliance department;
      • Develop and implement staff training, goal setting, and performance measurement strategies.

Qualifications:

Four years of experience in the following:

      • Proven leadership skills, including extensive experience in grant management, philanthropy, and/or nonprofit management;
      • Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations governing grant management;
      • Strong knowledge of Native American communities, culture, and agriculture practices;
      • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of social and economic justice issues related to Indigenous people;
      • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills;
      • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, Master’s or additional professional certification preferred, although not required with proven experience.
      • Experience managing and supervising teams;
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and grant management software.
