The Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative (IFAI) NAAF-funded program, Indian Country Food System Resilience and Trade Organization Feasibility Project, strengthens Tribal food sovereignty and support producers facing policy, market, and supply chain disruptions. Through research, policy analysis, listening sessions, and the development of toolkits and model codes, IFAI equips Tribal governments and producers with actionable resources to reduce input costs, expand access to credit, and improve market access. The project also evaluates effective organizational models, culminating in a policy roadmap and toolkit for the potential creation of a Tribal-led trade or governmental association to represent producers nationally. By addressing immediate disruptions and laying the groundwork for coordinated, long-term solutions, this project directly supports NAAF’s mission to increase capital access and economic opportunity for agricultural producers and Tribal communities.
