Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) is a partnership of North Carolina State, North Carolina A&T and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture researching community-based food systems. With NAAF funding, CEFS will work with Robeson Community College and University of North Carolina at Pembroke to host a sustainable agriculture internship for Lumbee youth.

The charitable trust was created by the settlement of the landmark Keepseagle v. Vilsack class-action lawsuit. NAAF is the largest philanthropic organization devoted solely to serving the Native American farming and ranching community.
