The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes X̣est Sʔiłn (Good Food) Project delivers a comprehensive, hands-on educational pipeline for students and community members that combines traditional food production, career mentorship, and economic empowerment. Through hydroponic and traditional farming, business planning with Eagle Bank, and a student-driven farmers’ market, participants gain foundational knowledge, develop “loan-ready” business plans, and experience real-world micro-enterprise. The project also awards scholarships for post-secondary agriculture degrees and matches students with professional mentors, fostering a sustainable cycle of cultural learning and workforce development. This initiative directly supports NAAF’s mission by preparing the next generation of producers with the financial and technical skills needed for success and food sovereignty in their communities.
